Because of circumstances beyond my control I have been out of the tent since Wednesday… as I drove up to Northern Iowa to be with friends and family for a bittersweet reunion. In the midst of the travels I have stayed in air conditioned rooms and slept on wonderfully comfortable queen sized beds with multiple pillows. Daggum! It will be hard to sleep in the tent tonite. Why is it that comfort is taken for granted so easily? After the first night in an air conditioned room, I was spoiled to the comforts of not sweating… and the next day when we were outside and I got “hot” I asked that we return to the house to continue the conversation in the comfort of the A/C!

I think in the same way that I have taken for granted A/C, we take for granted the blessings from above… Bitching and moaning when the comforts of yesterday are no longer available, and trying disparately to return to the “easy life” that we once had. So how do we endure hardship with humility and joy, how do we seek a virtuous life when we avoid the difficult decisions that must be made in moments of testing? Most of us FAIL at this, at least I know I do. So, today I am going to try and be joyful in returning to the simplicity of TentLife, as I sweat it out in the humid Oklahoma heat.
